Import and export CSV files

Match the columns once, review every row, then create a separate time card.

Choose the file and formats

Open Import CSV and choose a file. The file is read in this browser. Confirm its date and clock formats instead of relying on a spreadsheet’s display alone. Import creates a new project after review; it does not overwrite your existing saved cards.

Match the columns

The canonical export includes schema_version, text_encoding, shift_id, start_date, start_time, end_date, end_time, breaks_json, project, notes, draft and calculated minute fields. breaks_json holds an array of explicit dated break objects. Map other source headings to their meanings; do not assume similarly named columns contain the same units.

Review every row

The preview keeps correct records and problem rows visible. Blank rows are not silently discarded: review their explicit exclusion before continuing. Correct invalid dates, missing fields and overlapping intervals. A row or break is removed only through a deliberate choice.

Text and spreadsheet safety

CSV quoting preserves commas, quotation marks and line breaks inside fields. Unicode text is preserved. Formula-like project labels and notes use the canonical exporter’s documented apostrophe-v1 text encoding, which can be reversed by its importer. Quoting alone is not a universal guarantee against spreadsheet formula interpretation; check the exported encoding and the reader you use.

Choose the right output

CSV provides record data for spreadsheets. Use versioned project JSON when you need the complete editable project and settings. Use PDF for a readable submitted or printed copy. After a CSV round trip, compare dates, break types, notes, row count and minute totals, not only the final decimal display.

RFC 4180 is the reference for the CSV field and quoting format. It does not define a payroll schema or establish how every spreadsheet will interpret a cell.
