Rounding and display precision
Rounding starts off. If you enable it, choose the whole rule.
The default is exact minutes
With rounding off, totals are calculated from original whole-minute records. Decimal formatting does not change those minutes. Keep that distinction in mind when a displayed decimal has fewer digits than an exact fraction would require.
Choose an interval and direction
The available increments are 1, 5, 6, 10, 15, 30 and 60 minutes. Choose nearest, down or up explicitly. For nearest rounding, a halfway value rounds upward. Review the visible rule rather than assuming that the word “rounding” names one universal behavior.
Choose one application level
| Level | What is rounded |
|---|---|
| Shift | Each completed shift’s net duration once |
| Day | Each start-date day’s net total once |
| Period | The complete selected period total once |
Applying rounding again at another level would be a different calculation. The original clock-in, clock-out and break records remain available. Rounding a time-card total is not the same as moving every clock reading to a quarter hour.
Preview the difference
A 09:02–17:28 shift with a 30-minute unpaid break has 476 net minutes, or 07:56. Nearest fifteen minutes at the daily net level gives 480 minutes, or 08:00. The displayed difference is +00:04. In the Studio week example, every day already lies on a fifteen-minute interval, so that same daily rule leaves 38:15 unchanged.
Keep the rule with the output
If you use a rounded report, preserve the rule and original project backup so the result can be explained later. These settings are user-controlled arithmetic options. MinuteFolio does not decide whether a rounding practice is appropriate or lawful for an employment relationship.
