Choose your input format
Use hours-and-minutes notation for a value such as 07:30, or decimal hours for a value such as 7.50. An hour contains 60 minutes; a decimal fraction is a fraction of an hour. The distinction matters when copying totals into a spreadsheet.
| Input | Meaning | Minutes |
|---|---|---|
| 07:30 | 7 hours 30 minutes | 450 |
| 7.50 h | 7 and a half hours | 450 |
| 7.30 h | 7 hours 18 minutes | 438 |
Add before you format
A duration total can exceed 24 hours. The workbench keeps 27:30 as 27 hours 30 minutes rather than wrapping it to 03:30. Add original minute values first, then view the decimal result. An optional user-entered threshold can divide a total into regular and additional hours; it is not a legal overtime calculation.
